¡Hola amigos!
Although I am in a spanish speaking country now I'm not gonna write in spanish, unfortunately...
After literally the longest day of my life I arrived in Lima, Peru. At the airport there were many taxi drivers that wanted you to go with them for no less than 20 US dollars!!! I tried to figure out how to get to the right part of town, where my hostel was located myself. This time I had actually booked a place to stay, considering I don't speak any spanish whatsoever. I found a tiny bus with so many people in it, you couldn't move at all. The ride with the bus took a while, Lima is a big city. The tickets are cheap though, only two Soles. I was dropped off in Miraflores and started walking around and ask people for directions. Finally I found my hostel and could relax a little bit from all the flights. The girl in the reception was kind of suprised that i got here without being able to speak any spanish. Now that I think of it I'm surprised too. I will try to learn as much spanish as I can because it makes it so much easier to travel and negotiate the price when you're buying something.
The first thought I had when I arrived was that South America, or at least Lima it different in so many ways compared to Sweden. There are people shouting from the buses and jumping off as they go. If you look somewhere people will try to make you buy all sorts of things. There are small kiosks everywhere on pedestrian streets, where they sit all day long and they even sleep there.
The hostel I stayed at is located in Miraflores and is a really nice hostel. During my stay there I met a bunch of cool people. I met one canadian guy that spoke swedish. That surprised me a lot. Most of the time I stayed at the hostel to hang out and to recover from all the tiring flights. One day though, I went with a brittish girl to downtown. There I checked out some catacombs and just explored the town. Here I ate a ridiculously cheap lunch, three soles for a fish and some rice. Another day I walked to the beach with Eamonn from Canada. We tried a fruit called granada. It tastes like passion fruit but without the sour. I also went to an amazing fountain show in the evening.
After some time in Lima it was time to get going. I took a bus south and ended up in Paracas. In Paracas I went to some islands called the islas Ballestas. On the islands there were so many birds and sea lions. I saw a few penguins as well. Lisa from Australia and Alfredo from Buenos Aires and I ate some peruvian food and listened to reagge in spanish, it was nice.
Next place to visit was Huacachina after passing by Pisco and Ica. When I got there I found out that you can ride a snowboard down sand dunes - sandboarding. The village Huacachina is surrounded by massive sand dunes. At the hostel I met two guys from Canada named Quinn and Josh and Raquel from Spain. We all went on the so called buggies and flew over the dunes. Then I put on the snowboard and went down in T-shirt and shorts only. It was a strange feeling. The next day I was in Ica killing some time before the bus to Cusco.
Yeah, I made it! (And yes, I mean the post. :))
¡Hasta luego!
